Latest Cretaceous palaeogeographic evolution of northeast Iberia: Insights from the Campanian continental Montalbán subbasin (Spain)

This work characterizes for the first time 500–700 m-thick uppermost Cretaceous continental sedimentary succession of Allueva Fm recorded in northeastern margin Iberian basin, Montalbán subbasin (Maestrazgo domain, Spain). The middle-upper Campanian age this unit constrained here by new paleomagnetic and biostratigraphic data involves major revision previous stratigraphic palaeogeographic interpretations. uplift northern marginal areas onwards from middle supplied coarse terrigenous-clastic sediments common alluvial Fm. Moreover, a sharp increase sedimentation rates (from 4 to 19 cm/ky) lower part has been related further tectonic activity during late Campanian. Also relevant are discovered vertebrate sites mostly found large lacustrine-palustrine carbonate system developed latest Vertebrate include fossil assemblage with abundance titanosaur sauropod dinosaurs as well presence ornithopod crocodylomorphs.
